Trixie

Hi Lee,
Trixie and I had the best time at the Cape. We walked for miles and she explored all the new smells of the ocean. She seemed a bit indifferent about the water--tasted it once and only once! She is such a doll. I can't tell you how much I love her. She is just the best pup I could have ever been blessed with. Thank you again so much for saving her. I get teary just thinking about what could have happened and what happens to so many other wonderful dogs and cats. I have attached a few pictures from the beach and one of my favorites of her prepared for the rain :). All the best to you and maybe we can meet up sometime when you are in Ct or close by so you can say hi to the little bug.
Take care,
Carole

Cora Red & Blue

One of the first adoptions from Nick of Time Rescue!

She now lives in a loving forever home in NY.

Greeting from NH (and yes it's snowing again!) Just wanted to send you a picture of the girls. They are doing really well. We've even attempted to herd the sheep a little bit, still not sure what to do with them but they are at least interested. Still call them blue and red, we've tried lots of other names but we still come back to blue and red. I need to get a video of them for you of them running and playing. I'm glad we have the acreage for them to run and play, could not imagine them if they went to a place where they always had to be on a leash. The old girl Molly has grown to love her puppies and is doing a great job teaching them doggie manners. They wrestle gently as she is very arthritic. They are so fun to watch and I love when I come home (I could have only been gone 5 minutes) Blue & Red stand at the door to greet me and they are both springing into the air 4-5 ft. Thanks so much for rescuing them!

Most Sincerely,
Jenn, Jeff, Molly, Red & Blue

Ps even the cat plays with them some days.

Lola Lil Buddy

Hi Lee!

Lola is doing great--she's really sweet. It's like we've had her forever. Our pug, Wrigley, is not completely in love with her yet, but he's getting there. She's a little bigger than him so she pushes him around a bit. Thanks so much for bringing her into our lives. Kendel.

Our baby Lil Buddy is getting so big! When we got him he only weighed 4lbs and now he is around 20lbs, and he just finish getting all his baby shots. We adore him. Thank you once again!

L ucy was raised in a backyard her entire life, without any interaction with people. At eight months old, she was almost feral when rescued by Nick of Time. She now has a forever home with someone who loves her dearly.

    Cain
    Hi Lee,

It's been a while since we adopted Cain, now called Summer.  He has adapted very well and loves the family.  He is extremely protected of the children and we are still socializing him with other dogs and people.  He is very lovable, full of energy, and loves to play with us. I am attaching a photo of him with my daughter couple of months ago.  Of course, he has grown a lot ever since.  He now weighs 33 lbs (he was only 8 lbs when he came) and is tall.  He has great appetite and loves to eat and chew on snacks.   We'll be in touch with updates of Summer.  Thanks and hope you are well!!

Regards,

Lily

    Berkley
Just wanted to let you know how happy we are with the new addition to our family.  Berkley (named by our boys after their favorite maker of fishing gear) is a bouncy ball of black fur. She loves to run, chase balls and chews anything in site.  She's a snuggle bunny, which could prove troublesome when she gets bigger, but right now she is so cute we just lover her to death.  We'll be signing up for training classes after Christmas to help with the jumping, biting and learning to walk on the leash without dragging us down the street. Thank you for what you do and for bringing this bundle of joy into our home.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and everyone at Nick of Time. Steve, Flo, Jake and David, Saugus, Massachusetts.

  Chloe

Thank you very, very much for rescuing our Chloe girl and placing her with us for a forever home. We love her to bits! She slept on the bed with us the very first night.  Now listen to this! My husband loves Chloe more than he loves me! When he comes home from second shift the first thing he does when he walks in the door is start calling her name.  She runs to him and cuddles and kisses him. Then after Chloe gets her attention he comes and says hello to me and our other dog Gracie. Its just so cute.

One more thing, I have to tell you that you are a wonderful lady and I admire and appreciate the work you do for animals. I cant recall the who the patron Saint of animals is, but it must have been you in a previous life! I hope you and Megan made it safely to Cape Cod and back to Georgia. May God bless the two of you.

Dear Lee, I am attaching a picture of our dog Zip who came from your rescue.  He is an awesome dog and has fit right in with our family.  We are so grateful to have him.  I wanted you to have this picture to show others how wonderful it can be to have a rescue dog! Sincerely,

    Trixie

Hi Lee,

Just wanted to update you on this awesome little dog that I got from you! Trixie is doing great--every day her personality just blooms more. She came to work with me all week and delighted everyone who came in, as well as the staff. I have been taking her almost everywhere with me--today we went to get the oil changed on the car and shopped a bit. She keeps getting more secure with each thing we do--she has a bit of separation anxiety, as you probably know! But she is trusting that I will come back each time and never leave her!

She is an absolute riot chasing her ball in the yard. She turns into a crazed running snarling thing and then comes back for pets and kisses. She just cracks me up! We are signed up to start obedience classes on Oct. 19. I know she will be the star of the class.

She desperately wants my cats to play with her--crouches down, crawls along on her belly. But they really don't want to play. In time, they will tolerate each other better. She also just loves to have her belly rubbed--she practically goes into a little trance. She is so funny!

So, needless to say, we are having a great time together. I just love her and she is the sweetest companion. I'll send more pictures later and keep you updated since I have a feeling this was a very special little dog for you too! Hope all is well and thank you so much again for all that you do.

Warm wishes, Carole.

    Josie Finn

Here's a picture of Josie for your Happy Tails and Saved pages. The rest of them are all of her napping in her chair, in the living room with her pillow and pink blanket. Don't want to make the other dogs feel worse, so this picture will have to do!
Here is a picture of Finn at his new home!

He is really the best, most wonderful dog you can imagine.

Cole
Fenway

Hi Lee,

Here is finally the family picture of Cole, Paul and I, sorry it took so long, along there is some more, he is looking good.

Take Care, and thank you so much again,

Your new friends.

Here are some pictures of Fenway. There is one with him and one of the baby guinea pigs (which surprisingly he is very gentle with).
And the last one is his favorite way to sleep, with his tongue out so he snores!!

    Max

Hi Lee,
Max is an excellent boy! He is a pleasure and has "settled in" nicely. Still getting to know each other. But he is a lover, is very happy and content and wants to be with people. We take him on daily walks in the neighborhood. He is the "top dog" in the 'hood. We've referred your rescue shelter to a few people already. The heartworm problem is a concern and it's a difficult decision to make. The vets did a repeat test again and the test was positive. They want to xray his chest to see what's going on - what stage.... Trying to read all the info I can on heartworm and which way to go. What I found out so far is the northern vets treats dogs more aggressively for heartworm than the southern vets. And their rationale and thinking concerning this disease differs widely. Oh well!!! I did send you some pictures of Max in his new home environment. I'll try to get some better pics in the future. Again we are thankful we found you who helped us find Max. He sends his love.
Oh yeah! He loves his cookies and the cool kitchen floor!
Best regards.....Jim & Blanche

    Belle

Hey Lee,

I just wanted to update you on Belle. She is doing great! I love her soooo much I can't even stand to be away from her. Sometimes I secretly leave my boyfriend when I'm out with him a little early so I can come home and see her! What a personality that cat has, she is so different and just incredibly sweet! And she is also too funny! She loves to talk and can't play enough. She is such a nut, one of my cats is stubborn and won't play with Belle so Belle chases her around the house as her way of making her play with her. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you so much for my amazing kitty!

    Petunia

Hi Lee,

My name is Tina. My husband and I (George) adopted Pickles the mini, longhaired dachshund from you a few months back when you came up to Massachusetts. We love her and although she is still pretty frightened of people, she loves the other dogs and our big yard. Our other dogs seem to sense she has had trauma in her past and they are sweet to her. Even our most aggressive alpha female seems to love her. We love her too. Thanks for rescuing her!
Her new name is Petunia and she answers to that  now. The pictures are of her sleeping curled up with the other dogs in our car. I have included pictures of her for you they are not so great as I took them from my phone in the car but I wanted you to have them.

Take care and god bless, Tina

    Marlow

Hi Lee,

As promised, I have finally gotten some pictures together of Samson, now called Marlow.  As you can see, he is quite healthy and most certainly happy.  The girls love him to death, as we all do.  He has fit right into our family.  Theo, our cat, is still slightly cautious, but in time I believe they will get along as well as Bogart and Theo did.  Hope you enjoy the photos.

Again, thank you for all that you do and for giving us the opportunity to add "Samson" to our family.
Best Regards,

The Klaus Family

SNOW & MAMA "The Yams"

These two white German Shepherds were once feral street dogs. They found themselves at Clayton Animal Control and were rescued by Lee.

They stayed with Lee at the Nick of Time Refuge, where Lee worked with them to gain their confidence. The dogs were inseparable and seemed to love each other deeply. Lee worked with them as a team to earn their trust. It took a full 11 months to gain their confidence until, finally, they were ready for a foster home.

After a few weeks at a foster home they were adopted together into their own forever home, and are featured as November Cover Girls for the Brightstar 2008 German Sheppard Rescue Calendar.

CADEN

Caden is a little Chihuahua mix that was absolutely terrified in animal control. Nick of Time Rescue saved him so was spared from gassing.

Caden spent several weeks in a loving foster home in the NE, until a wonderful forever home was found for him.  Caden is a good little dog and is now happily enjoying life on a 2 1/2 acre farm. His new mom takes him for long walks with his friend Abbey. Without Nick of Time Rescue and Claudia, his caring foster mom, little Cayden would he would not have made it.

LOVEY

Lovey lived a life of neglect before she was rescued from Clayton Animal Control by Lee Caswell, director of Nick of Time Rescue.  Lovey smelled so bad that on the way home Lee had to keep the windows in her truck rolled down to avoid becoming nauseous. After arriving at Nick of Time, Lee discovered that Lovey could not defecate properly because everything stuck to her rectum and the outer lying mats. It took several hours over the course of two days to completely clean her up; she was so thin and weak that she couldn't stand the strain. Lovey, who was first thought to be a Lhasa Apso, turned out to be a poodle mix. She went to the groomers weighing close to 20 pounds - she came out weighting nine. Her hip bones and her ribs protruded through her now-short fur. The groomer stated that had taken at least two years for Lovey to reach her severely matted condition. After she was groomed it also became apparent that not only had she lost an eye, her jaw was crooked (below) and the tip of her tail had been broken. Lovey now has a forever home in Texas where she lives with five other rescued dogs.

DAISY

Daisy was brought to Clayton Animal Control along with Griffin, another Wheaton Terrier. Both dogs were scheduled for the gas chamber, and both were saved by Nick of Time Rescue. Daisy was skinny, pregnant and heart worm positive.  Because she tested positive for heartworms, she was not able to undergo surgery to be spayed and instead was allowed to have her puppies. Daisy's puppies were born during one of the loudest thunderstorms all year, lightening, high winds, and hale pounding the house. At 12:40 a.m. on February 16th, the first little puppy was born. Korey, Daisy's new dad, stayed up all night keeping Daisy calm. Daisy has become so attached to Korey that when he tried to leave her birthing pen she attempted to follow him rather than stay put and have the puppies. The final puppy did not come until 6:58 am. Operation Kindness, a no-kill shelter in Texas, is taking all of the puppies, who will be vaccinated, spayed and neutered and eventually placed in to their very own forever homes. Daisy could not have found a better home or future life--truly in the 'Nick of Time'.

GRIFFIN

Griffin and Daisy were brought in together to Clayton Animal Control. He was rescued along with Daisy by Nick of Time Rescue. Griffin and Daisiy were ever-so-bonded, and although they were placed into separate homes their new mommies are sisters so the dogs will still see each other often. Griffin now has a new friend named Oliver. They are the of best buddies, sharing toys, tug-of-war, chasing and romping.

NOODLE

Noodle the poodle was surrendered by his owner when he became old and to much trouble to care for. He was scared to death in animal control. Thanks to Nick of Time Rescue he is now a little lover, happy to be held and sleep on someone's lap. And that's exactly what he gets from his new doting mom.
